“Young Inspectors are improving their knowledge of Road Safety”

The project “Improving road safety through education – IV” which was supported by Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) in Sino district of Dushanbe intended to increase the frequency of injuries and deaths of children and young people up to 30 years, due to road and traffic incidents, as a pedestrian, passenger and driver reduces the number of children and adolescents involved in more than 30 cases of traffic accident in 2017.

These project helped to train through Educational Leaflets on Road Safety 20 Young Road Inspectors (YRI), 20 teachers of beginner classes Schools# 33, 60, 88, 91,101, 5 teachers - coordinators of YRI on road safety. Realization of the “Improving road safety through education – I, II, III, IV” extended four years and covered 10 pilot schools across Firdausi District.

The skills and knowledge that YRI gained during the training provided them with the opportunity to share the information sessions with their peers" based on the “peer to peer” ideology with more than 2000 students and increased their peers' knowledge of the subject up to 18%. In this way, the level of injuries on the road among youth and adolescents will decrease, and the behavior s will be considered as safe.

Furthermore, during the project implementation, an advocacy complain was conducted among 420 drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and parents.

In the framework of UN Week for Road Safety Young Road Inspectors and Volunteers have actively participated in a campaign dedicated to this action. "Driver run slow" campaign took place in one of the busiest streets of Dushanbe, and the drivers were provided with information sheets and leaflets.
